The Family Dances

We are a family of movers and shakers.

MotherBee is Mother Mother Binahkaye Joy. She is the co-visionary and principal activator of her family’s love-seeded enterprise, The Family Dances. Binah designs practices and systems for family-accessibility. She supports movement makers, event producers, and organizations in reimagining their spaces and programs to be engaging and intelligently constructed with family audiences in mind.

Binah is a dancing mother, fertility priestess, spiritual midwife, sacred nourishment practitioner, and afrofuturist bush mother. She cares for the mothers in her village by creating soft spaces for them to (re)discover the bounty of their wildest fertility dreams. Binah is the generative pulse of the Fertility Abundance Garden, a congregation for creators and a sanctuary for mothers. She spends most of her days dancing by the light of the sun, bouncing around with the munchkins, nourishing babies from her body, sitting with the mothers, and nurturing her children’s brilliance and discoveries at Wildseed, her family learning lab practice.

Bushman is James Muwonge. Bushman is the co-visionary of The Family Dances, where he also runs his capoeira school. He is a talented personal trainer with more than 15 years of experience supporting clients to reach their optimal fitness and wellness goals. As a NASM-certified fitness expert James designs innovative workouts that improve alignment and enhance physical function along the kinetic chain.

James has been studying and developing his capoeira practice, the African Brazilian martial art, for over 13 years. He’s a dynamic teacher and very passionate about helping people of all ages and skill levels appreciate the fundamentals of capoeira. He has devoted his life to understanding the dimensions and possibilities of capoeira, and its endless capacity to sustain wellness, vitality, and joy in body, spirit, and mind.

A father of 5, James understands how the stresses and demands of work life and family life can make a consistent exercise program seem out of reach at times. He is especially well-versed in designing effective workouts and fitness regimens for busy people who need support creating a sustainable fitness routine.

The munchkins make our world go ‘round.

Bloom (age: 10) is a budding historian and talk show host. He loves training capoeira with his father and learning new rhythms on the drum. Bloom is currently developing his first capoeira class for kids. He enjoys authoring stories about time machines and the future, dreaming up travel adventures for the family, and learning about new cultures.

Wonder (age: 8) is our resident engineer, mathematician, and philosopher. He enjoys building intricate lego creatures and inventing cool mechanisms. Wonder loves a good experiment and anything that lets hims run, jump and bounce. He is also an artist who has a poetic way with language and understanding complex things about life and humanity.

Jubilee (age: 6) is a dancer, artist, and emerging songbird. She loves leading the family in her signature workout practice called, Butt Stretch Ashe. Jubilee is fascinated with the alphabet and is her little brother’s favorite life coach. She loves coloring, building magnetic sculptures, going on adventures, and making everyone laugh.

Revelation (age: 4) is our keen observer and chief storyteller. He sees all and hears all, and reports back to Mommy and Daddy with whatever news he’s learned from bouncing in and around the big munchkins. Revelation loves to dance, play capoeira, read books with his siblings, and color all over whatever MotherBee is mapping out in her books.

Luminous Glory (age: just got here!) is the newest munchkin in the family. She is getting acclimated to life on Earth and learning lots of things about the lively bunch she was just born into. We are excited to see all the ways Luminous Glory expands the love and magic of The Family Dances!
